Judge won't dismiss charges in Tyler Clementi Case

(New Brunswick, N.J.) A judge in New Jersey won’t dismiss charges against a former Rutgers University student accused of using a webcam to spy on his roommate’s intimate encounter with another man.

The judge ruled on Friday that prosecutors provided adequate evidence to a grand jury for 19-year-old Dharun Ravi to be accused of invading his roommate’s privacy, bias intimidation and trying to cover up the alleged crimes.

Tyler
Roommate Tyler Clementi killed himself by jumping from the George Washington Bridge soon after the incident last September, touching off a national discussion about bullying.

Ravi’s lawyers wanted the 15-count indictment dismissed, saying prosecutors did not offer enough evidence to the grand jury.

The judge also ruled that the name of the other man in Clementi’s encounter should be released to Ravi’s defense lawyers.
