Punching, Burning, Electrocuting And Stabbing Your Gay Son Will Probably Not Make Him Straight / Queerty

From queerty.com is this tragic, but very important article about the theory that homosexuals can be "converted" to straight. This is a true story of torture, emotional and physical abuse fostered on their son by Southern Baptist missionary parents. Samuel Brinton, now a student at KSU, was the unfortunate and sad son of a Bapatist minister who, upon discovering that his son Sam might like boys instead of girls, subjected him to electric shock therapy by sticking needles in his fingers and then shocking him when he was forced to look at gay porn and other inhumane trials.

Sam, an incredible and shining example of the forgiveness that his parents ought to have shown him, has in return tried to repair the relationship with his family. His father has threatened to shoot him if he tries to contact the family or any of his siblings. This is such as sad story revolving around the idea that gays can be "converted" and that being gay is a choice.

Sam has his story here at ImFromDriftwood where he shares his story with many others in celebration of National Coming Out Day.

Study Finds Alarming Number of Gay Teens Are Homeless | News | The Advocate

According to the article:

Gay youth are far more likely than their straight counterparts to be homeless, according to the Children's Hospital Boston study, whose author warns of "a serious problem requiring immediate attention."

“These teens face enormous risks and all types of obstacles to succeeding in school and are in need of a great deal of assistance,” said Heather Corliss, whose findings show for the first time the magnitude of the homeless gay youth population. Corliss said these are "much higher numbers than we'd expect" given that gay youth are a minority.

Less than 5% of the more than 6,000 high school students surveyed identified themselves as gay, lesbian, or bisexual. But those students accounted for 19% of the homeless. Among straight students, 3.2% were homeless.

“This suggests that they may be more likely to be mistreated or rejected by their families and more likely to leave home,” Corliss concludes.

Because the research was done only in Massachusetts, where gay marriage is legal and where researchers believe homosexuality might be more accepted, they warn it's possible that the rate of homelessness is actually higher in other parts of the country.

Having experienced this myself (except for having to be homeless), I can say that the problem is much bigger than this article proposes. I adopted a young boy while in a 15 year relationship and it was the best experience I could have gone through. While it ended the 15 yr. relationship, saving one soul from the hatred and emotional pressure of being "tossed out" was well worth the loss. Adopt or help out!

The Amazing Ted Haggard Rises from the Ashes!

From the pages of the Advocate.com, and written by Andrew Harmon , comes this not-so-surprising story of yet another Bible toting, gay bashing, anti-gay pastor not only called a "gay massage service", that also happened to be his meth dealer...but who also brought along his WIFE to boot. As Andrew writes in his report:
She stared at her husband while he dug himself deeper before driving off. Four years later, in her memoir, Why I Stayed, she wrote of the moment: “As we approached the traffic light nearest our house, his confident expression melted, and his forehead dropped to the steering wheel. When he spoke again, his voice came out in tatters: ‘What have I just done?’ [Haggard asked.] ‘You just lied,’ I answered, my tone flat. ‘And everybody’s going to know it.’ ”
Everyone did, of course. And yet the man who, fairly or not, has come to embody the evangelical hypocrisy that gay people and their allies rail against daily — whose name comes up every time a man of the cloth or an antigay activist is accused of a same-sex dalliance — has returned to the pulpit.
In spite of the hipocrisy that has become all too familiar with men of the cloth and secretive gay solicitations, it is surprising the number of comments that support such people while they restart in the very same position, doing the very same thing. What is it that drives people in power to abuse that power, yet command others to do different, and in a hateful and abusive way?..more....
