As we lose more and more of our constitutional rights every day, this is one that we MUST take a stand on, and immediately. A Republican sponsored bill is about to be voted on that will allow the president to authorize the military to arrest and hold indefinitely any American in the USA for no reason and for an indeterminate amount of time.
We are truly headed down a very dangerous road that has been paved with greed and the need for control of the masses by the few who pull all the strings in our country. While the president has said he would veto such legislation that literally smacks of tyranny and a dictatorial take-over of America, this is the most dangerous that could be set to relieve us of any and all rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
America is NOT a battlefield. America is a free country and American
citizens should not ever be arrested by the military and certainly not
without being charged or getting a trial. This provision would cast
aside the Constitution and put the liberties of American citizens here
at home and around the world at serious risk. Please call your senator
or visit this link, because this is a risk Americans cannot afford to take.

Dumbing It Down: The Pursuit of Intellectual Mediocrity in America
Finally, somebody dare say something about the apathy and ignorance so prevalent today, not only in our educational system, but with the adult population - the ones that vote! Having said this so many times before in previous postings, it is becoming so clear that the "Dumbing Down of America" is real and so obvious that, ironically, most people don't even see it.
Just take a look at the slogans of the bunch of idiots running on the GOP ticket - "9-9-9", use of the word "simple" repeatedly - and one that really gets me going..."Their going to...", the blatant misuse of words and contractions. Of course it's easy to make a mistake on the keyboard now and then, but in the constant monitoring of comments about differing issues on the social network it is hard to believe that such a high percentage of Americans can write even the basic of sentences.
The fundamental ability to speak and write concisely is basic to our civilization and also our ability to understand the issues and make informed decisions about them. The best example of this is the continued use of simple slogans and phrases by the current slew of candidates, aimed at the general public as if we were a bunch of morons and couldn't understand complex explanations of a candidates platform. However, we are exactly where they want us to be...stupid, apathetic and too lazy to try to understand. In essence, believe me and what I'm saying ...everything I tell you is the truth. So we believe, we come back with comments on social sites that are way off-track, and we sit back in our chairs and wait for someone else to make it better.
The Republican agenda of education cuts over the years has done its job of making the general public in this country stupid, ignorant, and unable to communicate in an effective manner so as to intelligently discuss the merits of so many of the concepts and platforms of these candidates.
Wake up people! This coming election is possibly the most important election of any since the Great Depression. People who are intending to take the time to vote need to understand what these candidates stand for and how their policies and platforms are going to affect each of us in the future. Now is not the time for cutting education, but the time for investing in it. Something the current roster of idiots running on the GOP hangman's platform know and don't want us to know.

I sent this letter to (R) Sally Kern, District 84 of Oklahoma regarding this video conversation:
I know that this will never get to Ms. Kern, however, I still have to voice my opinion as a member of this country in which Ms. Kern's anti-gay rhetoric, along with her "jump on the bandwagon" tactics of the GOP are killing our youth today and tomorrow. As a supposed "Christian" there is nothing in the bible that backs up her mis-statements concerning hating gay people, nor do any polls across this country support her statements that we've "drifted away from the Constitution." Her hate-filled speeches and rantings are those of a bully in the eyes of a young adult who is struggling with gender identity (which almost every young person faces at some point in their young lives) and sets a very poor and misleading example for others that it is okay to bully, murder and hate someone because they are different than her beliefs. She has a responsibility as an elected official of the people in her district to be accountable for her words and actions and must be held to much higher standards than a member of the community. STOP THE HATE and try walking in the shoes of a young person who is being nullied in school. Find out for yourself how much it hurts and destroys their self-esteem. It's time to be held accountable for your actions!

Rash of Gay Suicides in Bachmann’s District: Her Homophobia at Fault? :: EDGE on the Net
It's one thing that some people are so afraid of homosexual people in general that they react with disgust, fear, or even emotional harassment, but Michele Bachmann has become the center post in her fight against gay people by using any means necessary to label, harass, bully, even push them to suicide.
Is this the quality of a Presidential candidate for the USA that we want in office? One that acts more like a psychotic, Nazi regime leader of past that murdered hundreds of thousands of people because they didn't fit into a group of zealots, and who now, in her run for the presidency (in this case hiding behind religion) is hell bent on killing so many of our young, vulnerable kids. Like so many psychopathic murderers who show no remorse for their murderous way, Bachmann has, is, and will pursue this issue at any cost to promote her beliefs on this country.
In my personal opinion I think she's mentally ill and should be put where she wants to put so many other who don't fit her definition of "human beings"...in reparative therapy for straight people in a mental institution with a loudspeaker blasting gay words, phrases of hate and threats of murder into her locked room. Her openly hate-filled attitude towards the gay community is so vindictive and hateful that should she ever become president of this country it would signal the breakdown of society in general and send us back into the religious crusades of history to kill and murder those that don't conform to her views. I guess that the most important question to ask is: what is the Republican party hoping to gain by allowing her to continue? There has to be some unearthly reason that she hasn't been squashed by this point in time!

Md. Marriage Opponents: We’ll Succeed in a Referendum | News | The Advocate
Faced with a new marriage equality coalition and a governor who is backing such rights for same-sex couples, some gay marriage opponents in Maryland say they are preparing for a voter referendum should a bill pass in next year's legislative session.
I have a hard time understanding such vehement opposition to equality among people of all colors, sexual orientation, and other minorities. It seems that this is all they have to do in their mundane lives is to push their religious views on others, assuming theirs are the only correct and moral ones. I believe in God personally, but I don't believe that's it's my position to force others through legislation to believe the same thing I do. That's what most of these groups are seeking to do, especially at the moment in Maryland where once again, the issue of same-sex marriage is up for a possible vote. Who gives these groups such permission to set the values for others? Then again, who are many of their constituents and how do they reconcile the high rate of divorce, philandering, open relationships and abuse of children against the hate they generate for the gay community? It's like talking to a wall, or in politics lately, a Republican Senator or Representative. No logic, no common sense, no sense of fairness...my way or the highway!

North Carolina Pol: Gay People Are “Sexual Predators”
Just in case you thought we've made some headway with the repeal of the DADT policy of the military, read this little ditty from a commissioner in North Carolina who thinks that gays are "sexual predators." Unfortunately, too many have seen this same attitude in their personal lives and felt the shame and hurt of this wrong assumption and the ensuing depression it creates. Equality may never happen and time after time, when we as a community run into people with such attitudes who label a minority with words like "sexual predator", it only drives teenagers struggling with their identity into making drastic and fatal decisions.
Proof of that is Mr. James' comment about the death of the colleagues son who died of AIDS mentioned in the paragraph below. It makes one angry to hear comments like this, but how do you fight back? Violence is not the way. One way is to follow through with the suggestion to write in and ask for a censure of Mr. James as asked by Change.org. Please do so and help change attitudes like this, or at least get people out of power that can affect others with their power. Write, compel, and change.
By Advocate.com Editors
"An antigay commissioner in North Carolina’s Mecklenburg County called
gay people “sexual predators” in an e-mail response to a letter from a
fellow commissioner asking her colleagues to sign a thank-you note to
the state’s officials who voted to repeal 'don’t ask, don’t tell.'
'Homosexuals are sexual predators,' James wrote in response to the e-mail from Roberts. “Allowing homosexuals to serve in the U.S. military with the endorsement of the Mecklenburg County Commission ignores a host of serious problems related to maintaining U.S. military readiness and effectiveness not the least of which is the current Democrat plan to allow homosexuals (male and female) to share showers with those they are attracted to.”
In 2009, James made headlines for mumbling the word 'homo' after a colleague spoke of her son dying of AIDS. A few years earlier, he was quoted as saying people of color 'live in a moral sewer.'
"Change.org is urging people to sign a petition to the Mecklenburg County board urging members to censure James 'for repeatedly using his work e-mail to bash LGBT folks.' James was just reelected to his seat. "

Is the use of the word "Gay" demeaning" Take our Poll
In a previous blog I wrote about actor Vince Vaughn's use of the word gay and the ensuing comments he received as well as the interview on Anderson Cooper 360. It does raise a question of when is the use of a particular word right or wrong. Here is part of that previous blog:
