King Trial continues despite mistrial attempts | News Blog from 365gay.com

I've been following the Lawrence King murder trial in my blog. I think that there are several precedents that might be important for the future prosecution of gay related hate crimes and also possible changes in the laws concerning bullying if his alleged killer is convicted. First, he's being tried as an adult instead of a juvenile, which could lead to a life sentence if convicted. If this happens, and since it is being so widely broadcasted in the news, a conviction will have a definite effect on how schools view anti-gay violence and bullying. I'll keep up on this as the trial progresses, but so far the defense has tried several times to have a mistrial declared. So far the judge has denied the requests.
