This story concerns the principal of a Texas school (Flour Bluff Independent School District) who will not allow the students to form a Gay-straight Alliance due to his homophobic attitude and bullying tactics of skirting the federal laws by canceling ALL extracurricular groups instead of allowing the students to from their new group. Bullying starts at the top by people with power. I've been saying this for a while and flows down to the impressionable teens who learn from those in power and in a position to teach, whether they be parents, teachers, principals, politicians, whomever. Teen bullies are NOT the real issue; they are a product of a society that openly encourages the practice! Please sign this petition, take a stand and help stop bullying in at least one place.
"The principal of Flour Bluff High School, a public high school in Corpus Christi, Texas, has repeatedly rejected a student's application for a Gay-Straight Alliance on campus. Not only is this homophobic, it breaks federal anti-discrimination laws.
Under the Equal Access Act, federally-funded secondary schools must provide equal access to extracurricular clubs. The act also grants equal access on school grounds and inside school publications to student groups. This includes Gay-Straight Alliances on campus.
Please sign the petition below to urge school officials to approve Flour Bluff High School senior Bianca "Nikki" Peet's application to start a Gay-Straight Alliance on campus and create a safe spaces for all students. "
